Pose Dedicated to Sage Kashyapa
Kāśyapāsana
Works on Shoulders · Obliques · Hip rotators
How to do it
- Come into Side Plank on one hand, feet stacked.
- Bend the top knee, fold that foot into half lotus (or place it on the opposite thigh) and keep the hips lifted.
- Reach the top arm behind the back and hold the foot, lift the chest and breathe; release and switch sides.
To come out, release the foot, unfold the leg and lower to Down Dog or Child’s Pose.
Common mistakes
- Don’t sag the hips toward the floor.
- Don’t force the half lotus: keep the knee pain-free.
- Don’t collapse the supporting wrist.
Benefits
- Builds arm, wrist and side-body strength.
- Opens the hips while balancing.
- Develops patience and focus.
Make it easier or different
- Easier: take Side Plank with the top foot on the floor in front.
- Support: lower the bottom knee to the floor.
- Skip the bind: reach the top arm to the sky.
Take care: Skip with wrist, shoulder or knee injuries, and warm the wrists first.
