Works on Quadriceps · Glutes · Spinal extensors · Shoulders

How to do it

  1. Stand on one foot, bend the other knee and take hold of the foot with the same-side hand.
  2. Kick the foot back into the hand and lean the chest forward.
  3. Reach the free arm forward, gaze ahead and hold; switch sides.

Common mistakes

  • Don’t lock the standing knee.
  • Don’t pull the foot hard.
  • Don’t hold the breath.

Benefits

  • Builds strength and steadiness in the legs.
  • Improves posture and balance.
  • Wakes up the whole body: good early in a practice.

Take care: Go easy or skip if you have knee, ankle or hip pain, or feel dizzy. Keep a wall or chair within reach for balance.
