Revolved Side Angle! From a lunge, twist and hook the opposite elbow outside the front knee, palms together. Press the elbow and knee into each other, and keep the back heel pressing down. Open the chest to the sky. Breathe, then switch. Twisty gnome.
Works on Obliques · Quadriceps · Glutes
How to do it
- Step into a lunge with the front knee over the ankle.
- Bring the opposite elbow outside the front knee and press the palms together, or place a hand on the floor.
- Rotate the chest open and reach the top arm up; hold, then switch sides.
Common mistakes
- Don’t let the front knee collapse inward.
- Don’t lean the weight into the lower hand.
- Don’t crank the neck.
Benefits
- Gently mobilises the spine.
- Stretches the back, hips and shoulders.
- Leaves the back feeling fresh and long.
Take care: Go easy or skip if you have back or neck pain, or are pregnant. Twist from the whole spine, not by cranking the neck or lower back.
